Personal Artifact Essay

My family is a combination of Dominicans and Puerto Ricans. My uncles, brothers of my mother are of Dominican origin, but my cousins and I were born in Puerto Rico. Our culture is mixed with Domirriqueños. An artifact in my family that basically represents us is a painting. This picture is Jesus’ supper with his disciples. This is an artifact of my family because in every house of a member of my family there is a picture of this. For as long as I have known, I have seen in my life. My family and I have moved 7 times from home and only once to another country. Always this picture is in our move. When my family and I came from Puerto Rico to live in the United States we were able to bring the painting and the painting stayed in my old house where my sister lives. One day a friend of my mom gave her a gift for the new houses and coincidentally it was the painting. This painting is not as old as the one we had in my old house. The one we had in my old house was there before my 23-year-old brother was born. This painting was more than 23 years old with my family and my mother’s friend giving another one like it for me was not a coincidence. My mom likes the picture because I was small for me this painting meant nothing just one more painting in my house even flow knowing that my whole family had one. When we moved, and this friend of my mother gave her this same painting and the concept that it was only a painting for me had changed. My family is mostly Catholic since my mother’s dad was a Spaniard. In Spain the religion that is practiced is Catholicism which means that my grandfather was instilling the religion of Catholicism to my uncles and my mother for years. However, in the generation of my cousins, my brothers and mine it was different because our parents did tell us about God, but they never forced us to belong to a religion. In my family this painting is more connected to religion than we might think because it does not represent a scene from the bible. But this painting depicts a dinner with people who are disciples of Jesus who believed in him. For my family and for me it represents the dinner, the union and the family that are the people who most believe in you and support you. It is also a representation that every person who enters my house or one of the members of my family through this picture can understand that we believe in God even though we are not of a special religion. Each member of the family who has this painting in their house is like having the family close even if we are far away scattered in different countries. For this reason, the fact that my mother’s friend finds this painting given her has a lot of meaning because in addition to the fact that it is a very beautiful gift. I think it is also the destination that wants to continue to maintain the connection that we have my whole family again of this painting. For many people can be a simple painting but for me it has a lot of meaning. My close-knit family likes to get together to eat together to be for each other in good times and bad. This picture has the impact that in a single image we are summarized as a family and that is why it is so important for us.
The purpose of my essay is that the person reading it can be understood as something as simple as a routine, an object or food can be so significant in you or your family. Sometimes we are so used to doing or seeing something that among our family that we do not even pay attention to what it means to us. When I knew I had to write about something that was cultural for my family, I had no idea I was going to write. In my mind there was only idea of the definition of culture that was religions and traditions Even, so I did not know what to write about and I even asked my sister for help, but she did not understand the question well. I tried to explain I gave him the example of the painting from there came my idea of writing about the painting. In this way I began to organize my idea of asking question how; How much time do you have with us? How many times have I seen it? How many members of my family had the same picture? Finally, what was the meaning of painting? Already with this question in mind it became easier for me to start developing my essay. As I wrote it, I learned that sometimes it is easier to write the thing than to express it verbally. Because in my case, I do not like to write but this essay helped me understand that for me it is easier to express myself or develop my ideas by writing. That made me feel good because I discovered something that I wasn’t going to realize on my own. I was also able to find something that identifies me and my family. I really enjoyed doing this essay because I learned new things from me and my family that are important interesting that I didn’t know or just didn’t see it that way. But I would still like to improve my writing in grammar and scores. So that on another occasion when you must write something the reader can understand better. Because for example my partner and my instructor liked my essay very much, but both told me that sometimes I put a lot of information in a sentence, and it was difficult to understand. That is why I would like to organize my idea better when writing it and better my grammar to improve the understanding of what I write. In my opinion the activity of review as a couple was useful to improve for my next job.

Interview Essay
She is Kailynn Guzman to the person who I had to intrevistar in the class activity. When our teacher told us that we could start the training I turned to mount a conversation with her before talking and she had smiled at me sympathetically. To start the work we started with her first I interviewed her then I interviewed her. When it was my turn to interview her in the way that what we did was her reading the questions from my computer and we talked about her answer. We did it this way because we tried with the first question, I asked but she couldn’t listen. The reality was that I felt very nervous and shy when I started interviewing her.
In the Blackboard discursion Kailynn mentioned that one of the things that made her extraordinary was surgery. Kailynn was born very prematured and small so when she drinks she could not breathe well her airway to be very closed they did not allow it.
He was supposed to be born at the end of April, but by chance he was born in early January. At premature birth she was born small and weak so she had trouble breathing on her own. This prevented me from leaving the hospital at once so I lasted 5 months in the hospital to make sure everything was okay. When she turned 1, I visit my doctor again and they noticed the narrowing in the airways. To fix this the doctor decided to do a tracheostomy, (a surgery that opens in the neck towards the trachea to allow airflow) After surgery they left a small tube in that same place to learn to breathe correctly, this tracheo lasted me 2 years and a long time I was better, with some asthma scares over the years. That’s where my first question came from which was, Te Dolio la cirugia?. She looked up and then looked at me, her answer was that she didn’t really remember because in her first surgery she was very pequena. Kailynn showed me where her scar is from the surgery that lies between her neck and chest. When I saw her the first thing I thought if I had to hurt the surgery because she looked very scarred. I asked him if there was a chance that his airway would close again? That’s when she told me that she was supposed to have another surgery, but it was postponed due to the covid situation. So far they do not know when that next surgery will be still has Kailynn on hold. When Kailynn feels or cannot breathe, she has a machine in her house that is for asthma that helps her to be able to breathe better. Sometimes she does not make any changes when this happens, she goes to the doctor. Kailynn hasn’t been through this event for a long time, but her doctor still wants to perform the surgery to prevent her airway from trying to close.
Kailynn’s breast went through surgery which she looked bad. This has caused a lot of fear and concern among Kailynn’s breast and Kailynn loved is afraid that the same will happen in surgery. I understand their concern because sometimes surgeries can be dangerous. Although this worries her as we talk about topics, she looked relaxed and smiling at you. We also talk about how she feels people see her. Usually as her surgery is visible people when they usually see Kailynn the first thing, she asks what happened there. Kailynn explained to me that this makes her feel that the first thing the person sees from them is their surgery and not her. I understand what she means because sometimes people tend to be very curious and at the same time insensitive when asking about something. In the end she said that although it is not what she prefers to be asked she understands and tries to give a small explanation to people of why she has that scarf. I find it kind of her that she has that gesture with the person that we didn’t really know existed is kind of surgery.
On the next day of interview Kailynn was a little late while she arrived, I reviewed my notes and thought of more questions to ask her. When she arrived, she apologized to me for being late and we started the other part of the interview quickly. This time we both asked each other questions and we both met at the same time. She likes to read romance book and fictional history. Personally, I like to watch movies better, I don’t like to read. Kailynn told me that she after reading a book, if the book has the movie, she just to see what thing omits the movies that the book has. For her to continue reading a book and not stop being interested in the book, she should not focus only on the scenario. We talked about which class in our favorite she told me that her favorite class always from high school has been English which for me made sense because if she likes to read. The English class has always been subjects in which you read a lot. One book that Kailynn identifies with is Perch Jackson, Honey girl. She really likes to read she feels she has read over 100 books to generate. For me that’s more than a lot because I think I don’t read even half of 100 books. Finally, we talk about some clothing stores such as forever 21, American eagles and h & m. We also talk about a curly hair product that her sister and I have in common Kailynn confessed that sometimes she uses it and that it really works for her. The last 10 minutes we remained silent I really did not know what else to ask her but at the same time I wanted to continue talking to her because I felt comfortable, and I found our conversation interesting. I was very shy in the interview to think that she was very nice.
Reflection
What I intend with my essay for the readers is that while they read it, they can imagine the interview in their head at least achieve that with my teacher. My process in the rehearsal was very hard because I was really lost in the instructions, and I had missed class. I can say that with this rehearsal I was more stressed than usual. To plan my essay what I did was I read an example that the teacher sent but she was still a bit lost. I wrote a page and a half of my essay for the draft and in the couple review I asked my partner for her opinion. I also asked him to give me suggestions and if he saw something he didn’t like, he told me to change it. This helped me to know how to organize my essay in the sense of how to organize what we talked about in the interview in the paragraph. What I learned about myself by working on this essay was that I should work on my mind, not my mind on me. When I started doing the draft, as I said, I felt very frustrated and stressed because I did not understand what I had to do, my mind refused to understand why I felt that I was not capable of doing it. But after the review as a couple, I understood that it was something more than my mind that I was blocked and didn’t want to understand. I really liked this task because it was fun and I felt very comfortable even though I am a very shy person, this task helped me in that because normally I don’t like to talk. The part that I like about homework is that we do class and learn in a more entertaining way. Because between a person and then doing an essay is something interesting and that’s why I like it. I also think of it in a way that this same essay we could do by reading the book and doing it with a book story which wouldn’t be as much fun as interviewing the person. For this reason, I really like the different activities that we did before doing this essay, for example, first making a list of how we do what makes us extraordinary, after someone thinks they are asking about that topic and I ask you, and then make an essay and you yourself can read it and give feedback. The process of this activity really enjoyed it. This essay helped me learn about a new topic that is airway surgery and why they do it. I really liked it because it was something I didn’t know. This essay showed me that I still need to keep improving on how to organize my ideas.
What really got me all my idea and how to do the essay was the feedback from my partner. Peer review. It works for me because it’s easier intellectually with a partner when you’re shy than it is with your professor. The process of doing this assignment will help me achieve some of the course objectives for my next essay to be more positive and work my mind. curriculum has worked for me to develop my idea and think better or learn to organize

Women have always been the weak gender for a long time. Women have always been seen as the gender that should be at home as a housewife. This has meant that the machismo of men has grown at the rate that time passes. Machismo is when the man believes that the woman cannot do something because she is weak or simply because she is a woman. In the eighteenth century the feminist community was created to defend the rights and equality of women. This community usually has behavior of questioning, assuming masculine virtues, wanting to make social changes and debating a position on the issues. Some examples are that women must obey a man’s orders. For society women must keep body clean in the sense that they must constantly remove body hair from their body. Wearing makeup is also a controversial idea, as women must wear makeup to be presentable. In addition, they even question a woman’s ability to work. The ability to work of women was not sufficient because weak gender and this is seen in jobs such as architecture, engineering, and business since almost always years ago it was seen that the dry male predominated more in these jobs. Finally, women are the ones who must maintain the home to be aware of the children and the family. These are some of the things the feminist community wants to change. The fourth is being lived now that it is the #Me too movement. This movement is to normalize the way a woman’s body looks, whether fat or skinny. Some people have been of great impact in this community such as Malala Yousafzai, Emma Watson, Rosa Maria Calaf and Marielle are feminists who have made an impact in the community. As for example Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan was shot in the head by Taliban for fighting for the education of women. In tiktok there is a girl whose user is @nadyaokamoto uploads content of her with her period trying to normalize in the tik tok community the period of women. The feminist community has a flag that represents it purple which represents it as a community and in the marches. According to the text by CLAIRE ZILLMAN, Internationally, purple is a color for symbolizing women. Historically, the combination of purple, green and white to symbolize women’s equality originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union in the U.K. in 1908. Feminism is not only composed of women but also with men and other communities such as LGBT who also have the same way of thinking that this comi doubts and seek gender equality. My position on feminism is neutral. I support the first wave of feminism that defends women’s right to vote. But I don’t agree with abortion or body hair in women. Not because she thinks that the woman should not show her body hair on her body. But because I think that both gender the excess of hair on the body looks uningernico I also think that women own their body but there is something that makes them look vulgar and there is also a consequence of some acts. I don’t think a woman should abort a child unless she is raped. A woman’s way of dressing will always be accepted if it is not vulgar because I think sometimes, we confuse the thing. I am not in favour of harassment or criticism of a woman’s body. We must all feel safe in any place we walk. Understand that everybody is different and that’s what makes a woman.

Reflection
What I want my readers to grasp from my essay is to learn something new about the subculture of feminism. So that you read the essay can think about the subject and can give their own opinion about what you think about the subculture of the essay. The reader of my essay will be my teacher who avoids it. My process in doing this work was to first ask people close to them if they considered themselves feminists. Then look for information on the subject and think that I really think about the subculture. I had also already observed a certain video on tik tok that a feminist person publishes. A step I did to be my essay to read several articles even though I knew I wasn’t going to use it in my essay. This helped me to connect things that relate to feminism such as femicide. At first, I was not sure if I really talked about the subject but instead of reading the different articles, I was more interested in the subject. I learned while at this essay that while it was important to take notes to remind myself as I did the rehearsal. I found this task interesting because we had to study and discover a new subculture. My attitude to this issue or this subculture changed a bit because before I only said that I didn’t agree with feminism but didn’t really know what else she was fighting for. One thing I would like to improve is to use the MLA format. Class lecture Elise Wu helped me by giving me an idea of how I could organize my rehearsal. Feedback from my partner helped me add new information. that was relevant. The process of this essay has resulted while learning in class since I feel that I have the idea of how to study a person or a subculture.
